The USNS General John Pope docked in Vung Tau, Viet Nam, with me and about 200 members of the 591st Engineer Company (LE) on board. The adventure continued after 19 days at sea.
Essentially we were dirt movers. Lots of roads, flat areas for buildings, and clearings. We also operated a rock crushing plant, a jungle clearing team, and did a lot of vertical construction when we first arrived.

A day you can't forget, no doubt.
