D-Day

On this day in 1944 the Allies invaded continental Europe at Normandy and started the drive that would lead to the defeat of Nazi Germany. Not many of the heroes who stormed those beaches are still alive, but here at Casa Cap'n we salute them.
Pictured is a blogger from that battle.

My Dad was there. Sorry to say at 95, I don't think he much remembers it. Also at the Bulge. It took a big bite out of his life.

Hard to imagine all he went through. I salute him.

My great uncle was there. Lost his childhood friend beside him on the beach--had to step over and keep running. He never spoke of it, or any of his service time.

The D-Day scenes in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN still haunt me.
